Every view you lay eyes on holds a piece of the past!
You never know what will happen—maybe the rain one moment will turn into a magnificent scenic view the next. Each of us needs to leave the most beautiful memories during travels in our prime years, and photos will capture and preserve the great surprises of this moment. In the plain and ordinary reality, we occasionally encounter romantic stories that make our hearts flutter. Perhaps that’s why travel photography has become such a popular and cool thing during trips...
Take the ferry from Xiamen-Gulangyu Wharf to Gulangyu Island, the "Sea Garden" and the most beautiful among Xiamen’s five main urban areas. During Gulangyu’s most prosperous period, you could almost hear the sound of piano playing from every household as you walked along the paths—earning Gulangyu the reputation of "the Island of Pianos on the Sea".
Gulangyu, a small island in the southwest of Xiamen, is surrounded by the sea, with beaches, shadowy trees, and quiet alleys. Every little detail makes you want to pick up a camera to record it. Whether you love portrait photography or architectural shots, Gulangyu never fails to deliver perfect results. Covering less than 20 square kilometers, this World Heritage Island is like a large museum of architectural history, dotted with well-preserved historical buildings of diverse styles. It boasts 51 representative historical buildings and mansions, 4 historical roads, 7 representative natural landscapes, and 2 cultural relics sites.
The moment you step onto the island, you will deeply feel Gulangyu embraced by green trees—fresh air wraps around you, and charming sceneries come into view one after another. Capturing these scenes frame by frame with your camera is perhaps the charm of Gulangyu. Every corner of the island is a worthy spot for travel photography: an unknown alley, an old villa long abandoned, an ancient banyan tree that has witnessed the passage of time, a blooming flower by the roadside, a relic site weathered by years... Every random shot tells a vivid story of the journey. When you come to Xiamen, this island—where even the air is filled with stories—is undoubtedly the best photography destination.
Amidst Gulangyu’s numerous western-style buildings and crisscrossing alleys, there are many corners that make people linger, but only this one is known as "The Most Beautiful Corner". At the 45-degree angle where two alleys meet stands a three-story red-brick building shaped like a sailing ship at sea. Lush green trees and blooming red flowers surround it, and the wooden street sign below the building adds a touch of literary charm.
Take photos here and enjoy the afternoon in a century-old villa for a more elegant experience. It is not just a bookstore in the traditional sense, but an integrated space combining books, fashion, art, light meals, reading, and travel—fully showcasing its richness. Time will pass, but images will last; every step you take leaves a trace.
In the mid-19th century, many Westerners left Europe and America and traveled across the ocean to work and live on Gulangyu. Most of these foreigners were devout Christians, and they decided to build a church on the island for Sunday worship. Believers from various missionary societies (the American Reformed Church, the British London Missionary Society, and the British Presbyterian Church) donated money to build the church at Lujiaoding (also known as Shanglujiao) on Gulangyu. Completed in 1863, this neoclassical-style church was then called the "International Church"—the earliest church on Gulangyu.
This section of the journey is a favorite among photographers; missing it may leave you with great regret. Besides immersing yourself in the sound of pianos on Gulangyu, you will also see two of the island’s most famous religious buildings: the Greek-style Christian church and the Catholic church with Gothic Roman architectural features. Additionally, three well-known consulate buildings will bring you a brand-new visual experience.
Located at No. 24 Fujian Road, Gulangyu, this two-story villa with exposed red bricks was built around 1896. Surrounded by various villas built by overseas Chinese, it offers a quiet and elegant living environment—an ideal place. Lin Henian was a pioneer of his time, who contributed military supplies to the country and helped safeguard China’s peace.
The depths of the sea sell "blue loneliness", but a gentle person will lead you out of the "sea bottom". We have prepared Gangzaihou Beach for you—the most well-equipped beach on Gulangyu with the broadest view. On the beach, the innocent cries of children fill the air. A group of barefoot kids, with their innocent desires laid bare, chase eagerly toward the distance—as if chasing their once pure selves! Experience the relaxing time of strolling on the beach of "Egret Island" (Xiamen’s nickname), wading in the water, and treading on the sand with bare feet.
Enjoy the scenery and take photos along the way. The most distinctive refreshment for the [Old Villa Afternoon Tea] is Gulangyu’s handmade pastries. After a long walk, you must be hungry. Before leaving the island, let’s taste Minnan-style handmade pastries, bite into pineapple cakes, and sip fruit tea—to draw a perfect end to your Gulangyu trip~
From countless customer photos, we can see that Gulangyu is the easiest place to get great shots. When it comes to clothing, the rule is simple: if you want fresh-style photos, avoid dark-colored clothes (black is a definite no). For the rest, just follow your own style. Gulangyu is not only perfect for young ladies’ travel photography—best friends, couples, and even family with kids can all take photos that look like blockbuster shots.

1. Q: When is the best time to visit China? A: Any time of the year can be the best time to visit China, depending on your interests and the regions you plan to explore. Each season offers unique beauty and experiences. However, it's highly recommended to avoid traveling during the Chinese public holidays of Labor Day (May 1st to May 5th) and National Day (October 1st to October 7th). These periods are peak travel times for domestic tourists, leading to crowded attractions and higher prices.
2. Q: Do I need a visa to travel to China? How can I get one? A: Most foreign visitors need a visa to enter China. You can apply for a visa at a Chinese embassy or consulate in your home country. We can provide assistance and necessary documents to support your visa application.
3. Q: What kind of accommodation can I expect in China? A: China offers a wide range of accommodation, from international luxury hotels and boutique hotels to traditional guesthouses and budget-friendly options. We work with reputable hotels to ensure comfort and quality during your trip.
4. Q: How do I get around in China? What transportation options are available? A: China has an extensive and modern transportation network. For city tours, we arrange private vehicles with drivers, and you can also use taxis, ride-hailing apps, and the excellent subway systems in major cities.
5. Q: Is it safe to travel in China? A: Yes, China is generally a very safe country for tourists. Major tourist areas are well-policed, and serious crime against tourists is rare. However, like any travel destination, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings and take standard precautions.

We recommend carrying some cash for small purchases.
